CPDme streamlining Continuing Professional Development online

At this year’s Emergency Services Show and Emergency Tech Show, CPDme is once again providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) accreditation for the free content sessions available to visitors to the NEC on 18 and 19 September. Over five stages and 55 sessions, the organisers have created a content programme that spans the wide spectrum of the blue light sector and is a key part of every visitor’s experience.

CPDme was set up by Andrew Omerod, a paramedic working in a UK ambulance service. Years ago, while on a shift as a paramedic, he listened as a stressed and anxious colleague shared their frustration about having their portfolio returned by the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council) seven times. His colleague told him, “I do CPD all the time, but I just don’t record everything I do. There’s no proper way for me to document it, I don’t know the correct format, and I simply don’t have the time, so I just throw everything into a shoebox.”

Andrew homed in on the three challenges that his colleague faced: formatting, time, and storage. His mind raced with ideas, perfectly aligning with the thesis he was writing for his degree.

And from this, the concept of CPD Made Easy was born. Andrew conducted research with professionals not only in medicine but also in fields like financial advising, chartered surveying, and other diverse professions. They all shared the same concerns as his colleague about manual processes or digital ones that simply didn’t work.

Andrew collaborated with his university to create a system that would support professionals by reducing the time needed to record CPD, addressing the challenge of proper formatting, and replacing the metaphorical shoebox with a digital one, organised, sortable, and capable of highlighting gaps in CPD.

Since 2009, Andrew and the CPDme team have supported over 100,000 users, facilitating more than 3 million submissions. They’ve empowered professionals and students across a wide range of fields to manage their CPD effectively.  As a not-for-profit social venture, Andrew has ensured that every student worldwide can access CPDme, helping them understand the importance of recording and managing CPD.

CPDme’s core service revolves around a website and mobile app that help users build, record, and maintain accurate CPD records. The system aligns with various frameworks, including those from the HCPC and Solicitors Regulation Authority.

In addition, CPDme offers complete event management services, including registration, badging, certificate design, and digital delivery. The platform can also host learning management systems, as well as create custom training and learning software. This includes tracking mandatory training, issuing certificates, and setting up email reminders.

From an initial idea 25 years ago, CPDme is now a globally recognised company that prides itself at being the leader in its field, transforming the digital future of continuous professional development.

The industry will once again be gathering at the NEC, Birmingham for The Emergency Services Show, co located with The Emergency Tech Show on 18-19 September, check out the full exhibitor list here. You can find CPDme in Hall 5, on stand D160.
