Hampshire to host UK’s biggest rescue competition next week

The United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) “Festival of Rescue” will be held in Hampshire next week.

Teams of firefighters from 28 UK fire services and three international teams will test their skills across a variety of challenging scenarios including vehicle extrication, rope rescue from height, water rescue, and trauma care. More via Southern Daily Echo

Government should set clear standards of resilience that infrastructure operators must maintain in the face of sudden shocks, the National Infrastructure Commission has reiterated in a new report. More via National Infrastructure Commission

PSA responds to Met chief’s lecture to Police Foundation

The President of the Police Superintendents’ Association (PSA) has commented following the John Harris Memorial Lecture delivered by MPS Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley and Deputy Commissioner Dame Lynn Owens.

Nick Smart said the position taken by the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of the Met, aligns closely with that of the PSA. But an outdated structure and crippling underinvestment are preventing forces from deliver the policing communities deserve. More via Police Superintendents’ Association

NIPB policing plan will be ‘next to worthless’ without funding, says PFNI

The Police Federation for Northern Ireland (PFNI) says the Policing Board’s draft Policing Plan will be next to worthless without a proper budget or required officer numbers.

PFNI Chair Liam Kelly, reacting to the published plan, said, “PSNI has a restricted, inadequate budget, the lowest officer numbers in its existence, and an overstretched workforce left to balance increasing and competing demands”. More via PFNI

Repairs leave one air ambulance for northern England

An air ambulance has been taken in for repairs, leaving one helicopter to cover its entire northern England patch.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) said it found a gearbox fault with one of its helicopters and had taken it out of service. More via BBC News
