More than 20 young people were put through their paces by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) staff in an effort to share life-long skills.

The teenagers from across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire worked closely with firefighters and Community Action Team staff to take part in a number of practical drills to gain an insight into the role of a firefighter.

The FireSkills courses were delivered at both Renfrew and Clarkston community fire stations and included responding to a number of emergency simulations. The FireSkills programme aims to harness firefighter training to equip young people with transferrable skills.

Both courses were organised in partnership with Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire councils.

“Congratulations to all the young people who took part from the local area, with the final practical demonstration being a great example of the participants’ dedication and commitment.

“The Fire Skills course is a notable example of successful local partnership working with Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service and Glasgow Airport Fire Service also delivering inputs throughout the week. We would also like to thank our partners at Renfrewshire Council and East Renfrewshire Council who contributed to the success of this course.”

Kevin Murphy, Area Commander, SFRS Local Senior Officer for East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire, and Inverclyde.
