South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) has published a new strategy which it says lays out a clear path for the future of its service and will ensure it remains fit for years to come.

SWFRS said the new strategy reflects its core priorities and brings together key recommendations from recent reviews and reports, including the Fenella Morris Review and the more recent inspection carried out by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS). The strategy aligns with the service’s comprehensive approach to prevention, protection, and response, comprising over 60 workstreams, each with clear timelines for delivery.

The strategy also outlines the direction for SWFRS’s continued development, focusing on the goals and aspirations that will help it evolve, innovate, and stay ahead of the challenges it faces.

One of the core elements of the new strategy is people, with SWFRS saying that staff wellbeing and empowerment are essential to its overall success. By fostering a culture of collaboration, SWFRS aims to shape a brighter future for the service and the communities it serves. The service said it is actively working to create an environment where all individuals feel valued, safe, and empowered to do their best work.
