New proactive crime-fighting unit launched in West Conwy

A dedicated policing team has been established in West Conwy to proactively target repeat offenders and tackle anti-social behaviour across the area.

Based at Llandudno Police Station, the new Clear, Hold, Build team currently comprises one sergeant and four officers, with a further four due to join shortly. Since launching, the team has been working alongside response colleagues, conducting high-visibility patrols, submitting intelligence, carrying out stop searches, and making arrests.

In recent weeks, they have apprehended several prolific and repeat offenders for crimes including shoplifting, stalking and harassment, public order offences, domestic violence-related assault, drug driving, burglary, breach of restraining orders and criminal damage.

Efforts to address anti-social behaviour have also seen officers return several youths to their parents. Three young people have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and burglary.

The team has executed three drugs warrants, most recently at an address in Llanfairfechan where drugs, cash and mobile phones were seized. One male was arrested and later released under investigation while enquiries continue. Officers have also worked jointly with British Transport Police on a separate drugs operation.

Six arrests have been made for failure to appear in court or recall to prison, while 25 stop searches have been carried out. The team has also made arrests linked to high-value retail thefts across Conwy and Denbighshire, with stolen items valued at over £1,000.

Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan said the team has made a strong start and is already having an impact on criminal activity across the region.

“Crimes committed by even a few prolific offenders can have a lasting impact on a community,” he said. “This new proactive team has hit the ground running—making arrests, enforcing court orders, and disrupting those causing the most harm. Their efforts have already led to meaningful outcomes across a range of offences.”

He added: “Public intelligence is crucial. It helps us build a clearer picture of the issues affecting each area. This is proactive policing at its best—designed to cause maximum disruption to criminal activity and enhance community safety.”
