Fire service enhances rope rescue capability with new custom-built vehicle

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has added a new vehicle to support its technical rope rescue team, improving how it responds to complex incidents across Kent and Medway.

The team is called on for rescues from height, depth and situations that require specialist rope access or complex casualty lifting. Previously, they operated from a Land Rover with limited space for both crew and equipment, often requiring a second vehicle to attend incidents.

“This new vehicle for the line rescue unit demonstrates KFRS’ ongoing commitment to the development of our specialist capabilities to help keep people safe.

“And, working closely with the manufacturer and including our crew’s firefighting insights has led to this vehicle’s precise design, making us all the more able to respond to emergencies across the county.”

Jack Keogh, Workshop and Maintenance Manager at KFRS.

The new addition, built on an Iveco 4×4 chassis by fire vehicle specialist Angloco, was developed in close collaboration with KFRS firefighters, including a visit to the manufacturer’s factory. Their input helped shape the layout, storage design and crew space.

The vehicle now allows the full team to travel together and carry all necessary equipment in one unit, supporting more efficient mobilisation and response.
