National Safer Business Action Week set for November as police step up retail crime crackdown

James Devonshire29 July 2025Updated:29 July 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

The National Business Crime Centre (NBCC) has confirmed that the 2025 Safer Business Action (SaBA) Week will take place from 10 November, forming a key part of the national effort to tackle retail crime, anti-social behaviour and other offences affecting businesses in communities across the UK.

Part of the wider Tackling Retail Crime Together strategic plan launched by the Minister of State for Policing and Crime Prevention in July, the SaBA Week initiative brings police, local partnerships and the private security industry together in a coordinated week of action. Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs), Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and retailers will join forces to target prolific offenders, provide crime prevention advice, and carry out high-visibility joint patrols.

In 2024, SaBA Week saw significant results, including more than 750 arrests across the country. Over 640 SaBA days and events took place, involving around 3,400 police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), with all UK police forces participating.

Superintendent Lisa Maslen, NBCC lead, said the initiative has become a vital fixture in the policing and business community calendar. “There were some excellent results last year in terms of arrests and convictions, but also in building long-term engagement and trust with local businesses,” she said. “Every police force in the country gets involved and we have no doubt that the same level of support and commitment will be shown again.”

Retailers and other businesses are being encouraged to participate by displaying the ShopKind campaign materials in their stores, promoting respect and kindness towards staff. All ShopKind resources are freely available online, and updates on SaBA Week activity will be shared via NBCC’s LinkedIn and Twitter channels throughout the week.

More information about the Safer Business Action Week and how to get involved is available on the NBCC website at nbcc.police.uk.
