Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) has begun the roll-out of 17 brand-new fire appliances, marking a major investment in the service’s long-term strategy to protect communities across the county.

The first vehicle officially went on the run last week, with the rest set to follow throughout 2025. The phased introduction is designed to enhance resilience, improve firefighter safety and ensure the service is equipped to respond effectively to a wide range of incidents.

Each appliance is fitted with the latest technology to support modern firefighting and provide crews with the tools they need to work efficiently and safely. The investment underlines NFRS’s commitment to protecting people, property and the environment with the most up-to-date resources available.

To mark the milestone, NFRS showcased the new appliance alongside one of its heritage vehicles from 1955 – highlighting how far firefighting technology has progressed in the past 70 years and the service’s continued focus on innovation.

“This is a really exciting step forward for us. Our firefighters deserve the very best tools to do their jobs safely and effectively, and these new appliances provide exactly that. We’ve worked closely with crews and suppliers to make sure each vehicle meets the needs of modern firefighting, and I’m proud that this investment will make a real difference to the communities we serve.”

Cath Toovey, Area Manager and Head of Resources at NFRS.

The arrival of the 17 vehicles will form a cornerstone of NFRS’s fleet modernisation programme, ensuring firefighters have the right resources to respond to emergencies across Nottinghamshire for years to come.
