British civil and defence drone manufacturer, Windracers has officially opened its refurbished and expanded factory in Hampshire, creating more than 50 skilled jobs and setting the stage for rapid growth in production.

The 22,000 sq m (237,000 sq ft) facility in Hamble-Valley, Fareham, will serve as the main hub for building the company’s ULTRA heavy-lift drone, which is designed for both civil and defence applications. The expansion means Windracers can more than double aircraft output by the end of this year, with plans to deliver hundreds of ULTRA drones over the next two years.

To date, the company has supplied several dozen aircraft to UK and international customers across civil and defence sectors.

“This expansion is a major step for Windracers. It gives us the space and capability to scale up production of ULTRA aircraft, creating skilled jobs here in Hampshire and meeting demand from customers in the UK and overseas.

“We are proud to be building world-leading technology in Fareham and to play a part in strengthening the UK’s aviation industry, and we are grateful for the support of the local community as we grow.”

Simon Muderack, Chief Executive Officer, Windracers.

The launch event brought together local leaders, national policymakers, industry partners and the construction firms involved in the redevelopment.

“It is fantastic to see a business like Windracers investing in Fareham. This new factory brings high-quality jobs to the area and puts our borough at the heart of an exciting and fast-growing industry.

“I was delighted to meet the team and see first-hand the skills and innovation that are being developed right here in our community.”

Councillor Louise Clubley, Mayor of Fareham.

Windracers’ expansion highlights the UK’s growing role in autonomous aviation technology while strengthening the local economy in Hampshire.

The industry will once again be gathering at the NEC, Birmingham for The Emergency Services Show, co-located with The Emergency Tech Show, on 17-18 September, check out the full exhibitor list here. You can find Windracers in Hall 5, Stand D200.
