Police Care UK appoints new Chief Executive

Geoff Cheshire

Police Care UK has appointed Geoff Cheshire as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Cheshire joined the charity in February 2025 as Chief Operating Officer before stepping in as Acting CEO. He brings experience from both policing and the charity sector, having previously held senior roles at the British Red Cross, including Area Director for the Northwest of England and Head of Operations for one of its national service lines.

Before moving into the charity sector, Cheshire served with Merseyside Police for more than 30 years in a range of operational and leadership posts, retiring as Head of Training Delivery. He went on to become Chief Officer for the Special Constabulary and has close family ties to policing, with his son currently serving in Merseyside Police.

“The charity is evolving to ensure we consistently meet the needs of those who come to us for help in the most effective way. We want the work we deliver to create significant and lasting change to the lives of those working in UK policing and their families, and to support those whose careers have been adversely affected as a result of experiencing harm from their policing experiences.

“As an ex-police officer myself I care deeply about the health and wellbeing of all those who serve and of those who have had to leave the service as a result of injury or illness caused by the work that they have undertaken.”

Geoff Cheshire, Chief Executive Officer, Police Care UK.

Police Care UK is currently developing a new strategy for 2025 and beyond, with a continued focus on supporting the complex health needs of those working in policing and exposed to trauma.

The charity has led pioneering approaches to trauma recovery, including the launch of its Intensive Trauma Service in 2021, following earlier work on trauma resilience training to help officers and staff recognise exposure and seek timely support. It also provides counselling, specialist therapies and financial assistance grants to those affected by psychological harm or financial hardship as a result of their work.

Looking ahead, Police Care UK plans to expand digital methods for trauma resilience under Cheshire’s leadership, while continuing to offer direct support to serving and former police personnel across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
