Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS) has joined forces with Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) to deliver accredited training to strengthen community safety, save money and help raise national standards.

Developed in-house by members of ECFRS’s protection team, the bespoke training package provides a Level 2 Skills for Justice Accreditation in Fire Safety, enabling firefighters to carry out fire safety checks at commercial premises with confidence and consistency.

After successfully embedding in Essex, ECFRS supported KFRS by developing a course specific to their service. ECFRS and KFRS colleagues then worked together to deliver the first course in Kent in September, with ECFRS continuing to support until Kent are ready to deliver on their own.

This is another example of the close collaborative working between ECFRS and KFRS Protection Teams. Previously, both services developed their new, innovative Risk Based Intervention Programmes together, allowing cross service peer reviews to be built into the new programmes.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service Area Manager Dave Bond said “Working with Kent Fire and Rescue Service demonstrates the benefits of collaboration – we are delivering accredited training that strengthens resilience at an affordable costs, while maintaining the highest professional standards.

“We’re proud to share expertise and to support Kent. This is about making sure our people and our colleagues have the right skills to keep communities safe and doing so in a way that delivers real value for the public.”

ECFRS Area Manager Dave Bond

The initiative reflects the national agenda for greater collaboration across fire and rescue services, helping ensure that firefighters have the right skills to protect businesses and communities.
