Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) is calling on residents in Peterborough to share their views as part of a new initiative aimed at making its workforce more inclusive and representative of the communities it serves.

The service has launched a project to better understand local career aspirations and perceptions of firefighting and related roles. Insights gathered through the research will help inform how CFRS engages with and recruits from Peterborough’s diverse communities in the future.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Jon Anderson said community input would play a crucial role in shaping recruitment strategies going forward.

“Hearing directly from our communities is essential,” he said. “A career with us can be incredibly rewarding, and we want to help more people understand the opportunities available within the fire service.

“This is a unique opportunity for residents to have their voices heard and play a direct role in shaping a service that truly reflects the public we serve. Your perspective is incredibly important to us.”

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Jon Anderson.

To gather feedback, the service is inviting residents to take part in a 90-minute focus group, where discussions will explore topics such as what makes a job appealing, perceptions of CFRS, and barriers that might discourage people from applying.

Spaces for the session are limited to ensure meaningful discussion. Participants selected to take part will receive a £50 shopping voucher as a thank you for their time and contribution.

Residents interested in joining the focus group can register their interest by completing a short online form by 16 November.
