Two detectives from the Metropolitan Police Service and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been named joint winners of this year’s National Detectives Awards, recognised by the Police Federation for outstanding professionalism and commitment to victims.

The Police Federation’s National Detectives’ Forum said the judging panel could not separate the top nominees. Forum Chair Ben Hudson said: “The achievements of our top nominees were so exceptional that we simply could not choose between them. Both detectives embodied the spirit and standards of this award so completely that we are proud to have them as our joint winners for 2025.”

DC Jayne Jones – Metropolitan Police Service

DC Jayne Jones, who serves in the Met’s Child Abuse Investigation Team, was honoured for meticulous investigative work and strong victim support. Over the past year she has acted as a Detective Sergeant, leading complex child abuse cases and contributing to a recent conviction for multiple child rapes. She is also qualified as a Level 5 coach, mentoring new detectives and supporting the Met’s wider efforts to protect vulnerable people.

Detective Constable – Greater Manchester Police

A Detective Constable from GMP was recognised for leading a complex historic child abuse case across multiple police jurisdictions. Beginning the investigation during the COVID-19 lockdown, she continued the work after moving to the Online Child Abuse Investigation Team, providing consistent support to the survivor. Her handling of sensitive evidence, cross-border coordination and meticulous case preparation helped secure a unanimous guilty verdict and an 18-year sentence.

Both officers were praised by their senior leaders for exceptional resilience, compassion and investigative skill. The Federation said their achievements reflect the highest standards of modern detective work, particularly in areas involving vulnerable victims and complex safeguarding demands.
