Wimbledon medical partnership wins national award

London Ambulance Service (LAS) and medical event provider Enhanced Care Services (ECS) have been recognised for what judges called an “industry first” collaboration at The Championships, Wimbledon, after the two organisations won Production Partnership of the Year at the 2025 National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) Awards.

The award celebrates excellence across the outdoor events sector and highlights partnerships that demonstrate innovation, resilience and high-quality service delivery.

The 2025 tournament marked the first time LAS and ECS had worked together to provide medical care for the event’s crowds. With more than half a million spectators attending, patient numbers were nearly double historical averages. Despite the surge, the partnership’s on-site treatment model meant only a small number of patients needed hospital transfer, easing pressure on local NHS services.

Judges described the collaboration as “not only exceptional” but “an industry first”, and praised it as a “gold-standard healthcare model for one of the nation’s most iconic outdoor events”.

LAS Chief Executive Jason Killens said the results demonstrated the strength of the new approach:

“Over the course of The Championships, we provided excellent care to visitors on site with only a small number needing to go to hospital,” he said. “It proves this exciting new agreement can help reduce pressure on the wider NHS while delivering gold-standard care, triage and treatment to those attending this iconic tournament who need medical help.”

Under the partnership, ECS led the treatment centres and provided overarching clinical expertise, while LAS managed mobile response and command-and-control operations. The two organisations will continue working together to deliver medical services at Wimbledon for the next two years.

ECS Medical Director and co-founder Dr David Connor said spectators had responded positively to the integrated model, noting that many appreciated being treated quickly on site and able to return to watch the tennis.

The award for LAS and ECS highlighted the growing importance of collaborative, specialist healthcare models in keeping visitors safe at major national events.
