New Chief Constable for Ministry of Defence Police

Kier Pritchard has been appointed Chief Constable of the Ministry of Defence Police (MDP), Lucy Bogue, Director at SJC GUARDIAN, has announced.

Pritchard joined the MDP as Deputy Chief Constable in September 2023 after a distinguished career with Wiltshire Police and stepped into the role of Interim Chief Constable in September 2025. During that period, he has emphasised the growing importance of the MDP against an increasingly unpredictable global backdrop, positioning the force as a critical national asset.

As the MDP continues its programme of modernisation and improvement, a number of temporary leadership appointments have been made to ensure continuity. Assistant Chief Constable Simon Dobinson has taken on the role of Interim Deputy Chief Constable, while Chief Superintendent Sarah Johnson has been appointed Interim Assistant Chief Constable. Both will continue to support Chief Constable Pritchard in the force’s mission to protect the UK’s defence and national infrastructure.

Announcing the appointment, Bogue said Pritchard was “well placed to lead the Force, who provide unique specialist policing, and support Defence to mitigate the complex and evolving threats that we, and the UK face.”

Pritchard said he was “incredibly honoured” to take on the role permanently, adding that the MDP was operating “at a time of heightened global tension.” He said he was confident the force would continue to meet challenges ranging from hostile acts and insider threats to protest activity and community unrest, while driving forward further modernisation to protect Defence.
