Met police selects AI redaction tool to streamline document handling

The Metropolitan Police Service has selected AI-powered redaction platform RedactXpert to modernise how it handles sensitive operational documentation. Developed by Simpson Associates, the platform will support the force in managing documents securely while improving the accuracy and efficiency of its redaction processes.

RedactXpert uses Microsoft Azure AI to automate elements of document redaction, while keeping users involved in the review and approval process. The platform is designed for public sector environments and supports compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR.

For policing organisations handling large volumes of sensitive information, efficient redaction is an important part of managing data securely and responding to information requests.

Phased rollout across the Met Police

The Metropolitan Police will initially deploy RedactXpert to a small group of users across several departments before expanding its use across the force. The phased approach will allow teams to refine workflows and support controlled adoption before the platform is rolled out more widely.

Once fully deployed, RedactXpert will enable the force to standardise and automate elements of its document processing and redaction workflows, reducing the amount of time staff spend on repetitive manual tasks.

The platform supports a range of document formats, including PDFs, Word and Excel files, PowerPoint presentations and images. It also includes document management and bundling tools, allowing multiple documents to be combined into a single PDF for review.

Users can review and approve redactions before documents are finalised, while built-in annotation and tracking features provide an audit trail to support governance and oversight.
