PCC announces new Chief Constable of West Midlands Police

Scott Green has been appointed Chief Constable of West Midlands Police after his appointment was confirmed by the region’s Police and Crime Panel.

The appointment was confirmed following a meeting of the panel on Monday 28 September, after Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster selected Green as his preferred candidate following a formal selection process.

Green has served as Acting Chief Constable since January 2026, having joined West Midlands Police as Deputy Chief Constable in April 2023. The selection process included interviews with young people from across the West Midlands, stakeholders, police officers and staff, before candidates were interviewed by a panel chaired by the PCC.

Foster said Green had demonstrated his ability to lead the force during his time as Acting Chief Constable. Green said he was “truly delighted” to take up the role, describing his appointment as the force’s tenth Chief Constable as an “honour and privilege”.

He said West Midlands Police had made improvements in areas including responding to calls for service, investigating crime and bringing offenders to justice, but added that “there is still more we can do to keep improving”.

Green also highlighted the importance of engaging with communities and building public confidence in policing.

“It is of the utmost importance to me that we listen and engage with communities to ensure we focus on matters impacting most on local people,” he said. “We will do this through our continued focus on building the trust of the communities we serve.”

He added: “With the incredible workforce we have, I know we can continue to prevent crime, protect people and build trust, meeting the challenges of modern-day policing. I am committed to doing everything in my power to serve the public of the West Midlands to my very best ability and provide a service they can be rightly proud and confident in.”
