In the last year, the capital’s fire service has raised nearly £200k for Fire Fighters Charity, smashing its target and more than doubling the amount raised in the previous 12 months.

Staff drawn from across London Fire Brigade ran the London Marathon with record numbers taking part including two firefighters running in full fire kit. One firefighter pushed a former colleague and friend living with motor neurone disease around the course in a specially adapted wheelchair – the same one used by Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow.

Added to other fundraising activity from car washes on fire stations, open day collections and personal challenges, Brigade staff also participated in a 370-mile bike ride raising £4.6k.

London fire chief, Jonathan Smith called the Brigade’s fundraising efforts “outstanding.” He added: “This reflects not only their deep commitment and passion for Fire Fighters Charity, but also the creativity and community spirit across the Brigade.”

The Brigade continues its efforts to support the charity by focusing this week on the health and wellbeing services that staff can their families can benefit from.

Sherine Wheeler, Chief Executive of Fire Fighters Charity thanked staff, adding: “Every pound raised means we’re here with tailored support, tools and advice to help our fire family stay well, every day.

With Fire Fighters Charity relying almost entirely on donations to fund its vital work, none of the support it offers individuals in the fire services community would be possible without the generosity of its supporters. Fire Fighters Charity will once more be at The Emergency Services Show which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham on 16 and 17 September. Secure your spot to join us and visit the charity on stand CZ77. Register to attend here.
