Researchers secure £4.2m to tackle UK resilience and security

Manchester researchers, backed by a £4.2m grant from UK Research and Innovation, are leading the SALIENT (Secure And ResiLIENT) project to address the UK’s pressing resilience and security challenges.

The project focuses on robust supply chains, global order, security technologies, behavioral resilience, and natural and built environment resilience. More via Emergency Services Times

Coal Authority celebrates first year as Category 2 responder

The Coal Authority is marking a major milestone in its work, with February signalling a year since it was granted Category 2 responder status.

Established in 1994 to manage the mining legacy of England, Scotland and Wales, the Coal Authority has always been called upon to support the ‘blue-light’ emergency services on major incidents related to historical mining. More via Coal Authority

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue puts out appeal for new firefighters

A building fire has highlighted the need to find new recruits for fire stations across the county.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has confirmed that it had insufficient firefighters at its Holbeach station to attend a blaze in Toll Lane on Wednesday last week so it had to send crews based in Spalding and Long Sutton. More via Lincs Online

New Chief Executive appointed for South Western Ambulance Service

Dr. John Martin has been appointed as the Chief Executive of the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. Previously serving as interim Chief Executive, John joined the Trust from the London Ambulance Service, where he held the roles of Chief Paramedic Officer and Deputy Chief Executive. Report due on whether red flags about killer police officer were missed

An independent report on whether red flags were missed about killer police officer Wayne Couzens is due to be published on Thursday.

The former armed Metropolitan police officer will never be released from prison after he abducted, raped and murdered marketing executive Sarah Everard in March 2021. More via Yahoo! News

Study reveals North Yorkshire firefighters have slowest response times in UK

North Yorkshire has the slowest firefighter response times in the UK, according to a new study.

A report from Claims.co.uk has found that North Yorkshire fire crews have an average response time of 12 minutes and 37 seconds.

This is almost double the fastest response time of 6 minutes and 53 seconds from Tyne and Wear’s fire service. More via Rombalds Radio

Manufacturing company gifts defibrillator to local community

Graham Hart Processing Technology Ltd., the Bradford based heat transfer manufacturing specialists, have donated a defibrillator to the Friars Industrial Park for members of the local community to access.

The new model of defibrillator was purchased through the London Hearts Charity and is designed to make saving lives as simple as possible. More via Bdaily News

Cumbria Fire Service selects digital transformation partner

Infographics has announced Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) as its latest FRS client to select the FireWatch platform, to deliver a management suite and complete, connected picture of human resources and assets.

This move is part of Cumbria’s broader business transformation and digitisation initiative following its shift from the County Council to the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC). More via Emergency Services Times

Firefighters have shared life-saving guidance with some of Scottish football’s brightest young talents.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) visited the training grounds of Rangers and Celtic to pass on vital CPR techniques to players from each clubs’ B Team. More via SFRS

Prince Harry loses challenge against downgraded police protection in UK

Prince Harry has lost a legal challenge against the government’s decision to take away his right to automatic high-level police protection when he is in the UK.

His lawyers had argued that he was “singled out” and treated “less favourably” in the decision, which meant he would no longer be given the “same degree” of taxpayer-funded personal protective security when visiting. More via Sky News
