More funding to boost decarbonisation of estates

More blue light organisations are set to benefit from funding to decarbonise their estates under a new tranche of funding from the government.

Police forces are the big winners this time round, with just over £11m going to projects for Northumbria, Humberside, West Yorkshire, Dorset and Gloucestershire; the Met takes the lion’s share with £5.7m. The Police and Crime Commissioner in Avon also gets a smaller grant of £46k.

These projects have been awarded funding through Phase 3c of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. 209 public sector organisations have been awarded grants for 244 heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects.

London Fire Brigade gets a £2m grant as it continues to decarbonise its fire stations. Walthamstow is the capitals first carbon zero fire station, helped by funding from previous rounds of this scheme.

Elsewhere in fire, Nottinghamshire and Devon and Somerset fire and rescue services both receive around £350k each. Both had previously received grants for measures that include improvements to water heating and a range of insulation solutions intended to prevent heat loss.

There are two ambulance winners in this £14m tranche of funding. South West Ambulance service receives £321k and East Midlands Ambulance gets £135k.

This announcement is timely as Emergency Services Times is hosting a webinar focused on biodiversity and how developments can achieve the targets set by government.
