‘Urgently needed’ National Resilience Strategy imminent

The Government has published its National Security Strategy 2025, stating that “without security and resilience at home, we cannot deliver economic growth or any of the other government missions to improve the lives of the British people.”

Part of the strategy recognises the vital importance of long-term actions to build national resilience against external shocks or threats that could cause massive disruption to our way of life, including from the natural world. As a result, a new Resilience Strategy is being developed to deepen understanding of the UK’s current resilience levels, supporting civil society and the public sector to better address risks and vulnerabilities.

The strategy will also launch public communications to inform citizens about preparedness for risks. This will be supported by the UK Resilience Academy’s training offer to all those across society who play a vital role in national resilience.

Posting on LinkedIn, Lord Toby Harris, Chair of the National Preparedness Commission, said: ‘The good news is that a Resilience Strategy is imminent. Given the threat picture, this is urgently needed and it is to be hoped that will put in place what is needed to make the country prepared for whatever may arise in the years ahead and resilient to withstand whatever shocks come our way.’

Join our upcoming webinar on 3 July at 14:00 as we explore how emergency services plan to respond to incidents involving Critical National Infrastructure and where that fits with the wider resilience activity they do on a day to day basis. Sign up here.
